With all the pictures I've been accumulating, I thought it would be a great idea to put them some place where people can view them in a larger format than on this blog.  I placed them on the first page link labeled "Statments/Galleries."  I will keep a couple slide shows on this page, perhaps more current pictures with older ones... Light and Dark, Night and Day.  These two pictures show the extreme characteristics of Hiroshi Ogawa's Hikarigama kiln: loud and powerful; soft and subtle.  Surprisingly, they compliment each other.  It would seem that one would war with the other, causing problems and mischief of sorts, but unlike the real Jekyll and Hyde, these opposites work together, achieving a balance, much like the swing of a pendulum.  When one force reaches it's maximum expenditure of energy, the kiln naturally swings into the direction of it's opposite; one feeding the other, as one breathes in the other breathes out till there is no more energy from it's potter friends feeding the kiln's appetite of stoking wood.  Then, at the end, there is a lull to sleep of a quiet giant, and it rests till the next time the pendulum swings.

Doors bring us home, protect us, they give a sense of comfort from the outside, the unknown, and can take us on a journey.  "When one door closes... another one opens...": a common saying.  I imagine a transformation; a decision coupled with action left open to the interpretation of chance, an end result not necessarily the desired result.  Most important to me are the decision and the action taken to participate in this transformation, finding enjoyment and surprise in an unknown result.
