Vases
"Patient Breath" --
These vases are a marriage of clay and wood through time and patience. "Patient Breath" is an expression of the process and creation of this wood-fired work, roughly taking three-months. During that time I practiced a meditation technique of focusing thoughts on the breath. The parallels of centering the clay and oneself go hand in hand, and the breath centers both. "As I breathe in, I center myself. As I breathe out, I center the clay," this is the mantra that allowed me to be patient and mindful to create this work. Bearing in mind my first ideal, to craft ceramics strong, I focused on preparing these pots as best as I could for the fire. I was attentive to the form, especially the verticality and width, creating a large clay surface to lend itself as a canvas for the flow of fire and ash that would drape the pots.
